NSCFL 2008

PRESENTING

The One and Only...

The Awesome...

The Once in a Lifetime...

NATIONAL SCHOOL CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP LEADERS' CAMP 2008

*that's why it's once in a lifetime, coz next year it'll be 2009 -_-'

I won't go into detail about what we did on the 1st day, 2nd day, 3rd day, 4th...... Just wanna give a brief, and hopefully interesting, yet meaningful overview of the camp. Agreeable? Let's GO!

Day ONE

WE board the bus at SU office in Jalan sumting sumting, then we set off for STM. We were sitting behind this bunch of noisy :) people from.... okay lah won't say lah. Oh ya, we got lost too... If you were with us for our CF camp you would probably recall that the journey from the hospital took 1 hour plus... well this one took 3!!! yes 3 hours... We actually went all the way to Port Dickson... haha must have had something to do with the drivers. ;)

Nah... I dun want to do that for all six days... Let's try a different approach.

This NSCFL camp is an annual camp organised by Scripture Union for youth of ages 13-19. This year DUCF had 11 people represented there, refer to previous post to find out who :)

This year the theme was 'Living Stones in a Broken World'. WHAT?
Good question, let me explain:

This theme is actually for the theme talks which are held every night. The speaker this year was Michael Williams. He works for SUFES. Which means he works a lot with youth, sort of. Ok, here's a summary of all four theme talks.

The term 'living stones' is actually taken from 1 Peter 2:4-5: "As you come to him, the living Stone-rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him- you also, like living stones are being built into a spiritual house..."

So that's living stones. How bout 'broken world'? It refers to the world that we live in right now. It's broken alright, war, corruption, crime and those stuff...

Now, what are we Christians to do?
First, we have to ask ourselves how are we different from the world? Do we seek after fame and money? Do we use our posts in CF to make us popular? But the truth is, being too popular can actually make it harder for us to share the Gospel. Let's face it would you, if you were in trouble go up to the most popular kid in school and share your troubles? NO WAY!!!

But we ARE different... 1 Peter 1:2 says "...chosen by God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood."
We have been chosen by God, made pure by the Holy Spirit in order to do His will.

How? We are, as stones, to build a spiritual house for others to come and meet God. We are to be the salt and light in the world. Then we have to love our neighbours as ourselves, which Paul says is the greatest commandment, Galatians 5:14. Finally, we have to take up our cross for Christ where ever we are. This means we are willing to suffer for God, just as Christ did on His way to Calvary.

Phew... That's the heavy stuff done.

In line with the theme... this year the groups were named after precious stones, i.e. Pearl, Chrysolite, Crystal, Beryl, Amethyst, Ruby, Diamond, Emerald, Jasper, Sapphire, Topaz, Carnelian, Agate and Onyx.

Of course we also had plenary sessions and workshops and games:

Plenary session 1: 'Why the SCF?' by Christina Leong (woot, woot)
PS 2: 'Building a strong SCF' by Kiew Sieh Jin
PS 3: '7 reasons why the Bible is God's Word' by Jason Fong
PS 4: 'Going for Christ' by Roshan Thiran
PS 5: 'Teaching: Career' or Calling' by John Liew
PS 6: 'Spiritual Disciplines' by Leong Yew Seong

Workshop 1: 'Who am I?' by Lim Sern Wang
Workshop 2: 'BGR and sex' by Jason Fong and Kiew Sieh Jin
Workshop 3: 'My Parents and I' by Dexter Ng

Seem long and boring, but hey no! These are very relevant topics for us these days and we enjoyed most of them...
Come on, where else do you get people asking questions like "Why do people have sex in the toilet?", "Can a married couple video tape themselves having sex?" like what some asked during workshop 2. Hehehe... ;) No joke, it happened.

A highlight will have to be the 3 hour silence and solitude on the last day... We campers are encouraged to spend these 3 hours in TOTAL silence and solitude, praying, reading the Word and just listening to God. It's tough but a thoroughly wonderful experience. :)

Then of course there's the 'Prom Nite' thingy... where everyone dresses up nicely and just releases all their energy, bottled up from the 3 hours of silence... Like these people down here:
